Several bills are pending in Congress to expand the number of H-1B visas available each year. A bill that would make the yearly number of available visas 200,000 has been by Reps. David Dreier (R-Calif.) and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.). Companies would have to pay $ 1,000 per visa. A similar bill is pending in the Senate, though there, the "education fee" is $500.
Now's the time to call, email and/or write your representatives. Tell them the country needs a liberal temporary worker program for professionals.
